I've homeschooled my 3 teenagers from the beginning and love to help new homeschoolers get started. Previously, I was in technology consulting for 17 years, got a degree in biblical counseling, and was an executive coach before having kids. Along the way, I fell in love with history and was determined to make history exciting and understandable for kids. I developed very unique custom curriculum and have loved teaching it for the last 3 years. My programs are one-of-a-kind, using lots of imagery, video clips, succinct stories, and memorable themes that bring history to life. The junior high class features a set of 11 dragons which represent time periods. Each time period has a theme which enables students to grasp the big picture of the time. We look primarily at four main events of the period but also dabble through the 16 secondary events to flesh out the picture. And finally, a high-level map shows just the most important places of that time to keep it simple and impactful. The high school class begins with current day world events and issues, then looks at the historical roots of western civilization, considering how history impacts today's issues. This course has a uniting thread running it through it--using readings from differing perspectives-- which illustrate both the criticisms aimed at western civilization and the arguments supporting the uniquely positive aspects of the liberal, western world order. Some of this is a much-needed reckoning, but much of it fatally undermines the very things that created the greatest, most humane civilization in the world." -- Douglas Murray, The War Against the West We use passages from current and old books, news articles and footage from 1900 until present day, memoirs from survivors of the Nazi holocaust, Russian gulags, Chinese Cultural Revolution, striking quotes from Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Solzhenitsyn, and more. Classes run for a 16-week semester and are 1 hour in length with homework, readings, videos, assignments etc. posted online.
